staff profile - WILLOS CALLAGHAN
When we were contacted by a world famous photographer who wanted to become a plumber we were a little in awe. You see, we are huge fans of Willos Callaghan - self taught Deaf Ocean Photographer. His pictures hang on walls all around the globe, including ours!! Naturally, we said that we would love to help!
Willos was born in Campbelltown, NSW. He attended Thomas Patterson school (Australia’s first Deaf school, which was established in 1860). He eventually moved to the Gold Coast 19 years ago and attended Miami State High School.
Willos developed a love of the ocean while riding his body board, and a passion for photography. Using a Cannon camera in an Aqua Tech housing, he is relaxed capturing images in his second home - the Ocean.
With one little bubba who is 16 months old and another one on the way, Willos has taken a path that Paul did when the time came and that was to get a stable job and look after his family. “I haven’t been shooting much since my son was born last year. I’ve loved spending every moment I can with my son watching him grow.” Instagram - @willoscallaghan
Having been on work experience while studying Cert II in Plumbing, we find him to be super enthusiastic and ready to absorb all the information we pass his way.
Willos started with us as a work experience student at the end of 2020. Early into 2021, we went on to offer him a plumbing apprenticeship.
